As someone who works at a small local Texas station, it’s so crazy to think of what we can now do so simply today was a technological mountain back then. And also how right-place/right-time can make or break a station’s coverage. It’s so sad that WFAA hasn’t received the recognition through time that it should have. As someone born in the 80’s, I totally bought in to the almost Cronkite-only coverage of this event. Thank you for posting, and educating!

My scholarship in this area has nothing to do with conspiracy (although, like everyone else, I have my own opinions). Nevertheless, “conspiracism” tends to overwhelm the subject. It has made many historians and scholars leery of even approaching the topic. But 50 years on, we need historians to start doing the serious work of asking questions and exploring issues around the assassination outside the never-ending arguments about the grassy knoll, anti-Castro Cubans, the CIA, FBI, Mafia, etc., etc., etc.

BTW: the real “Mark Lane,” one of the first and most visible conspiracy proponents, lives in my town of Charlottesville, Virginia. If you are really him, why don’t you come and talk to my class?
